President Barrow Applauds UTG Ahead of Silver Jubilee, 17th Convocation Ceremony

In a significant prelude to the University of The Gambia’s (UTG) 17th convocation and Silver Jubilee celebration, His Excellency President Adama Barrow, who also serves as the Chancellor of UTG, received a high-powered delegation from the institution at the State House in Banjul today.

The delegation, led by the Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, and Vice Chancellor Professor Herbert Robinson, briefed the President on preparations for the landmark event scheduled to take place on April 26, 2025, at the UTG Faraba Bantang Campus.

During the briefing, President Barrow extended his heartfelt congratulations to UTG on reaching the 25-year milestone since its establishment in 1999. He lauded the institution’s contributions to national development and praised the ongoing infrastructural advancements, including the completion of Lot 1 and the continuing progress on Lot 2 of the Faraba Bantang Campus.

“The government remains committed to enhancing the infrastructure of our tertiary institutions to create a conducive learning environment for all students,” the President affirmed.

Professor Robinson proudly announced that a total of 1,228 students have met the academic requirements and will be graduating during the upcoming convocation. He also informed the President that a dedicated convocation planning committee has been instituted to ensure a seamless and memorable ceremony.

In addition to the convocation plans, the UTG team discussed strategic initiatives to bolster the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. This aligns with broader efforts to transform the agricultural sector and position the university as a key player in advancing The Gambia’s National Development Agenda.

The Silver Jubilee celebration is expected to be a historic moment for UTG, highlighting its evolution over the past two and a half decades as a hub of knowledge, innovation, and national progress.
