The Gambian police have achieved a breakthrough in their crackdown on a notorious robbery gang terrorizing commuters along the Sukuta-Jabang Highway.
A collaborative effort by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) units of Latriya, Sukuta, and Old Yundum has led to the arrest of a key suspect and the recovery of stolen items.
A stolen C-Class Mercedes Benz, reported missing at the Old Yundum Police Station on December 27, 2024, was discovered at the suspect’s second residence in Dalaba Estate.
CABS World News correspondent gathered that police also confiscated several incriminating items, including a jacket, daggers, and a smartphone, believed to have been used in the robberies.
“The recovery of the vehicle and other items is a major step in dismantling this gang. We are committed to ensuring public safety,” said an official from the CID.
In a revealing turn of events, the arrested suspect provided investigators with the identity of an accomplice, known as Ebou, alias “E.” However, Ebou remains at large, and efforts are underway to bring him to justice.
Police have assured the public that they are intensifying their search and have urged anyone with information on Ebou’s whereabouts to come forward. “We are determined to close this case and ensure justice is served,” the statement read.
