Senegal mourns passing of Sheikh Salih Mbacké

Senegal has lost one of its spiritual guides and revered teachers with the passing of Sheikh Salih Mbacké, a figure celebrated for his dedication to faith, education, and community guidance.

National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko paid tribute to Sheikh Mbacké, describing him as a father, friend, confidant, and mentor who had been a source of guidance and support during difficult moments. In a heartfelt message, Sonko noted the impact of Sheikh Mbacké’s work across numerous Daara—traditional Islamic schools—where his teachings shaped generations of students.

“Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return,” Sonko said, reflecting on the loss. He honored Sheikh Mbacké as “the price of work and spirituality, master of khélkom,” and prayed for him, asking that Allah envelope him in mercy and open the doors of eternal paradise.
