Police in Parcelles Assainies have arrested six women over alleged offences linked to non-registration in the health file, solicitation, public disorder, and vagrancy.
According to police information, the arrests were carried out on May 8, 2026, by the Parcelles Assainies District Police Station following concerns about activities reportedly affecting public order in the area.
Police said the six women, described as known to law enforcement in connection with prostitution-related activities, were unable to present the documents required to regulate their activity. Authorities also said some of the individuals had previously been questioned for identity checks, public drunkenness, or disturbance of public order.
Among those arrested, one woman had reportedly already been referred to judicial authorities on November 21, 2025, for non-registration in the health file. Police accused her of repeated disorderly conduct, including shouting and making insulting remarks toward officers.
Another woman was described by police as being known for alleged fraudulent practices, including taking money from partners before provoking disputes. She had reportedly been referred to judicial authorities on February 10, 2026, for non-registration in the health file and allegedly acted with an accomplice.
Police said they had received several complaints from residents of Cité Mixta regarding the conduct of the women. Following their police custody, all six were presented to the Dakar prosecutor’s office.
The case highlights the need for a balanced response that protects public order while also addressing the deeper social, health, and economic vulnerabilities often surrounding informal and unregulated sex work. Beyond arrests, sustained community safety requires prevention, public health monitoring, social support, and lawful enforcement that respects human dignity.
The Senegalese Police said it remains mobilized to protect the public and urged residents to provide useful information through the toll-free number 800 00 17 00.
