Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) has earned international recognition following the distinction of Professor Rokhaya Ndiaye Diallo, a specialist in human genetics at the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Odontology (FMPOS-UCAD).
Professor Diallo was honored in Athens, Greece, where she received the prestigious HUGO African Prize 2026, awarded by the Human Genome Organisation (HUGO) during its annual congress.
The award recognizes both the excellence of her scientific research and her sustained commitment to the development of human genetics in Senegal.
Her distinction represents more than an individual achievement. It also places UCAD once again in the international scientific spotlight, highlighting the growing contribution of Senegalese researchers to global knowledge, innovation, and medical science.
In a statement issued on behalf of the university, UCAD Rector Alioune Badara Kandji extended warm congratulations to Professor Diallo and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and the promotion of talent.
The recognition is also a source of wider national pride. At a time when African universities are working to strengthen their global research visibility, awards of this kind help demonstrate that world-class scholarship is being produced on the continent and that Senegalese academics are helping shape critical scientific fields.
For students, researchers, and the broader university community, the honor serves as both recognition and inspiration — proof that sustained research, institutional support, and scientific dedication can earn a respected place on the international stage.
