Dakar — Police in Dakar have referred three individuals to the public prosecutor following a violent altercation linked to a romantic dispute that escalated into a street fight along the city’s coastal Corniche.
Authorities from the Commissariat d’Arrondissement du Point E confirmed that two men and a woman were presented before the prosecutor on charges including voluntary assault causing bodily harm, public fighting, acts of violence, and adultery.
Street Fight on the Corniche
According to police, officers were alerted on March 12, 2026, to a violent confrontation taking place along the Corniche Ouest.
Patrol officers responding to the scene found two men engaged in a physical fight, accompanied by a woman believed to be connected to the dispute. All three individuals were arrested and taken into custody for questioning.
Dispute Originated in Medina
Investigators later determined that the conflict began earlier in the day in the neighborhood of Medina.
Police said one of the suspects had been driving with his partner—a married woman—when another man, also claiming to be romantically involved with the woman, confronted them and physically assaulted the driver.
The confrontation reportedly began with slaps and grabbing before escalating into a fight between the two men. Witnesses initially separated them.
However, investigators say the two rivals later agreed to meet again on the Corniche to continue the confrontation, this time using improvised weapons.
Injuries and Medical Treatment
Both men sustained significant injuries during the fight and were transported to the Centre de Santé Gaspard Kamara for medical treatment.
Medical reports indicated that one suspect suffered injuries resulting in 16 days of temporary incapacity to work (ITT) after being struck with what police described as an iron nunchaku.
The second suspect admitted during questioning that he used a metal ring to wound his opponent during the altercation.
The woman involved in the dispute—who police say is married and the mother of five children—also sustained a forehead injury during the fight.
Suspects Admit to Fighting
During police interrogations, both men admitted to participating in the fight and acts of violence.
The woman also acknowledged maintaining relationships with both men, which investigators said confirmed the adultery allegation under Senegalese law.
Case Referred to Prosecutor
After the expiration of the suspects’ custody period, police referred the trio to the public prosecutor to face the charges.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and urged citizens to report criminal activity through the national toll-free hotline 800 00 17 00.
Police officials said they remain fully mobilized to protect the public and respond to incidents of violence across the city.
