Gambia Police dismiss officer for impersonation, fraudulent withdrawals at Credit Union

The Gambia Police Force  has dismissed Police Constable 9760, Sanna Mballow, following his involvement in an impersonation and fraud case at the Brikama Police Cooperative Credit Union.

According to an official statement released by the GPF, investigations revealed that PC Mballow attempted to make an unauthorized withdrawal by posing as another member of the Credit Union. His actions were detected by staff who immediately apprehended him and handed him over to the police.

Further inquiries linked the officer to several previous unauthorized withdrawals from other members’ accounts, indicating a pattern of fraudulent activity. Investigators concluded that his actions were a “serious contravention of the Police Disciplinary Code” under the Police Act, Cap 18, Vol. IV.

Following a thorough internal review, PC Mballow was found guilty of impersonation, fraudulent conduct, and gross professional misconduct. As a result, Inspector General of Police Seedy Mukhtar Touray approved his immediate dismissal from the Force.

The statement emphasized that this was an isolated incident, not reflective of the institution’s overall integrity. “The GPF remains committed to upholding discipline within its ranks and will take decisive action against any officer found wanting, without fear or favour,” the release stated.

The Gambia Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to public trust, stressing that it will continue to prioritize integrity, accountability, and professionalism in serving the nation.
