The Mayor of Banjul, Rohey Malick-Lowe, has expressed optimism for greater collaboration in urban development following a high-level visit from the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The meeting, which was both a strategic discussion and a reunion of long-standing allies in development, focused on infrastructure investment, youth and women empowerment, and the mayor’s Legacy Goal.
During the visit, the delegation toured the Crab Island Sustainable Development Centre, an ambitious initiative aimed at empowering women and youth by providing training spaces and fostering community-driven sustainability projects. The state-of-the-art facility, designed with environmentally friendly structures, received commendation from the AfDB team.
“My Council and I appreciate the numerous nods of approval on this significant achievement,” Mayor Malick-Lowe said, highlighting the project’s role in shaping a more inclusive and progressive city.
The Mayor extended special appreciation to Mamtut Wadda for facilitating the visit, emphasizing that the meeting marks a crucial step toward stronger partnerships for Banjul’s development.
“As Mayor of our dear city, I have high hopes for what we can achieve together in the City of Banjul. As President of REFELA, our partnership stretches far beyond the borders of our city and indeed of our country, The Gambia,” she affirmed.
With urban development and social empowerment at the forefront of discussions, the meeting reinforced Banjul’s commitment to regional collaboration and sustainable growth.
