Gambia cabinet reviews development priorities

President Adama Barrow on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at the State House in Banjul, bringing together senior government officials to review national priorities and advance the country’s development agenda.
The meeting was attended by Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow, Cabinet ministers, the Secretary to Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Deputy Secretary to Cabinet.
According to information from the Office of the Vice President, the weekly Cabinet meeting remains one of the government’s most important decision-making platforms. It provides space for Cabinet to deliberate on national priorities, review the implementation of policies and programs, address emerging challenges and make strategic decisions aimed at improving the lives and livelihoods of Gambians.
The meeting also served as a platform for strengthening coordination across ministries and public institutions. Such coordination is essential for ensuring that government actions remain aligned with national development priorities and that public programs produce visible results for citizens.
For ordinary Gambians, Cabinet meetings matter when they translate into better service delivery, stronger public accountability, job creation, improved infrastructure, access to education and health care, food security and more responsive governance.
President Barrow’s chairmanship of the meeting underscored the central role of Cabinet in shaping policy direction and ensuring that ministries work collectively rather than in isolation.
The government said the meeting reflected its commitment to efficient, transparent and people-centered governance.
As The Gambia continues to pursue its development goals, the test of Cabinet decisions will remain implementation. Citizens expect not only policy discussions at the State House, but practical outcomes in communities, markets, schools, hospitals, farms and workplaces.
The weekly Cabinet platform therefore remains important not only for decision-making, but also for national accountability. When ministries coordinate effectively and follow through on commitments, government policy becomes more than administration; it becomes service to the people.
