Gambian Defense Attaché General Satou Bojang Dies at 62: Nation Mourns Dedicated Diplomat

The Gambia is mourning the loss of one of its distinguished diplomats and military officials, General Lamin Satou Bojang, who passed away at the age of 62.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad confirmed his passing, which occurred on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul.

General Bojang, widely respected for his unwavering commitment to national service, was serving as the Defense Attaché at the Gambia Embassy in Guinea Bissau before his passing. His illustrious career spanned several key diplomatic and military roles, including serving as Consul General at the Consulate General of The Gambia in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and as Deputy Head of Mission at The Gambia Embassy in Moscow, Russia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Dr. Mamadou Tangara, expressed deep sorrow over his passing, highlighting his immense contributions to The Gambia’s foreign service and defense diplomacy.

“We mourn the loss of a committed public servant and pray that Almighty Allah grants him Jannatul Firdaus,” the ministry stated, offering heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
