In a landmark move aimed at boosting development and employment in The Gambia, top envoys from the European Union (EU) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) visited the country’s Vice President, His Excellency Mohammed BS Jallow, at the State House today.
The high-level visit signals renewed commitment from both international bodies to strengthen cooperation and drive sustainable progress in the West African nation.
EU Ambassador, Ms. Immaculada Roca I Cortes, who was recently accredited to The Gambia, underscored the importance of deepening bilateral ties. “The EU is unwavering in its commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties with the Gambian government,” she stated.
She emphasized the EU’s interest in supporting The Gambia’s national development goals and driving economic growth through sustainable partnerships.
Similarly, the ILO Regional Director based in Dakar, Ms. Samira Daoud, echoed the organization’s dedication to advancing decent work and employment in The Gambia. “The ILO supports The Gambia’s mission to create decent work opportunities for its citizens,” Daoud noted. As a newly appointed representative, she stressed the importance of aligning international efforts with national priorities to ensure that workers, employers, and the economy at large benefit.
During the courtesy visit, both envoys expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Vice President’s warm welcome and reaffirmed their shared commitment to tackling pressing issues such as job creation, social protection, and inclusive development.
