Madi Jobarteh, a prominent human rights activist and advocate for democracy, has been honored with the prestigious Press Freedom Hero Award 2024 by the Gambia Press Union (GPU).
The award was presented during the GPU Journalism Awards ceremony on Saturday, December 7, in recognition of his unwavering dedication to media rights and freedom of expression. Jobarteh has been a vocal supporter of the press in The Gambia, consistently advocating for their right to operate free from censorship or intimidation. His efforts have highlighted the indispensable role of the media in promoting transparency and holding those in power accountable.
