In a decisive move against visa fraud, the West Coast Regional Task Force has arrested Yusuff Mendy in connection with a high-profile case reported on January 17, 2025.
Mendy stands accused of defrauding multiple victims of D585,000 and collecting 49 passports under the guise of securing UK visas.
Acting on intelligence, authorities raided Mendy’s residence in Kololi, uncovering 49 passports belonging to individuals from The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, and Senegal. Additionally, D90,000 in cash was recovered, believed to be part of the fraudulent scheme.
Mendy, during initial questioning, reportedly named two accomplices based in Brikama, who are currently at large. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend them.
Speaking on the arrest, a Task Force representative emphasized the importance of public vigilance in combating fraud. “This case highlights the need for individuals to be cautious of offers that seem too good to be true. We urge the public to report any suspicious activities immediately.”
Visa fraud has become a growing concern in the region, with many desperate individuals falling victim to false promises of international travel opportunities. Authorities are intensifying efforts to crack down on such schemes, which exploit the dreams and savings of unsuspecting citizens.
As investigations continue, Mendy remains in custody and is expected to face charges related to fraud and deception. The Task Force has assured the public that every effort will be made to bring his accomplices to justice and protect citizens from similar scams in the future.
The public is advised to verify the legitimacy of visa services and to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies promptly. This arrest serves as a stern reminder of the dangers of fraudulent schemes and the need for vigilance in safeguarding personal and financial information.
