Nigerian Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has left the country’s capital city Abuja for Dakar, Senegal, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the country’s 65th Independence Day Anniversary celebrations.
A statement from Shettima’s spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, highlighted the significance of Senegal’s Independence Day, which is observed annually on April 4 to commemorate the nation’s liberation from French colonial rule in 1960.
The day is marked with national pride, featuring ceremonies, parades, and cultural displays.
“The Vice President’s attendance at the annual event is in honour of an invitation extended to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Senegalese President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, following the strong mutual relationship between Nigeria and Senegal,” the statement read.
The grand celebrations will take place at the Place de la Nation in Dakar, where President Faye will host Vice President Shettima alongside other distinguished African and international guests.
Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria tomorrow after participating in the historic event, further strengthening diplomatic ties between the two West African nations.
