In a gesture aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and regional cooperation, Gambian President Adama Barrow arrived in Accra, Ghana, on Sunday to attend the inauguration of President-Elect John Dramani Mahama. The historic ceremony is scheduled to take place on Monday, underscoring Ghana’s commitment to democratic processes.
Upon his arrival, President Barrow was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour and warmly welcomed by the Gambian community in Ghana. This visit not only signifies the deepening relationship between the two nations but also reflects the shared vision of fostering unity and collaboration within the West African region.
President-Elect Mahama has been a long-standing ally of The Gambia. He played a pivotal role during Gambia’s 2016 political impasse, offering support as part of the ECOWAS leadership that intervened to uphold democratic principles following the presidential election.
“President-Elect Mahama was one of the ECOWAS leaders who supported The Gambia during its political impasse following the 2016 Presidential election,” the Gambian presidency stated, acknowledging Mahama’s contributions to the peaceful resolution of the crisis.
President Barrow’s participation in the inauguration ceremony highlights the continued solidarity among ECOWAS member states in promoting stability, democracy, and development across the region.
