President Barrow hosts Algerian special envoy, calls for stronger trade, cooperation

President Adama Barrow today welcomed a high-level delegation led by H.E. Madam Selma Bahte Mansouri, Special Envoy of the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, to the State House in Banjul.

The delegation, which included the Algerian Ambassador to Addis Ababa, H.E. Mrs. Selma Malika Haddadi, and a representative from Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered messages of goodwill and solidarity from the Algerian President.

During the meeting, Special Envoy Mansouri conveyed Algeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties with The Gambia in critical areas such as education, health, capacity building, and trade. Highlighting Algeria’s readiness to partner with The Gambia, she emphasized the potential for mutual growth and regional development.

In response, President Barrow welcomed the initiative and stressed the importance of intra-African trade and cooperation as a foundation for the continent’s integration and stability.

“We cannot achieve African integration if Africa is not trading within,” the President stated, underscoring the need for stronger trade relations between The Gambia and Algeria. He also reiterated that a stable nation is a prerequisite for progress, making regional partnerships crucial for shared success.

The meeting was attended by The Gambia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mamadou Tangara, and his Permanent Secretary, Lang Yarboe, who expressed optimism about the prospects for enhanced collaboration between the two countries.

This visit highlights a renewed commitment to fostering African solidarity through strategic partnerships, with a focus on shared prosperity and sustainable development.
