Mbemba Drammeh, a former staunch supporter of The Gambia’s ruling National People’s Party (NPP), has reportedly fled to France after being released on police bail in connection with allegations of election rigging during the 2021 elections.

Drammeh, who was arrested last year, gained attention after his explosive appearance on The Politic Kacha Show aired on Kerr Fatou media. During the program, he alleged that the NPP, led by President Adama Barrow, engaged in electoral fraud, claiming to possess evidence that could substantiate his accusations.

Released on police bail pending further investigation, Drammeh’s unexpected departure to France on Friday has sparked significant concerns about the credibility of his allegations and the integrity of the ongoing investigations.

Authorities have not issued a formal statement on Drammeh’s flight or the potential impact on the case. However, police have taken two individuals, who acted as sureties for Drammeh, into custody. The two guarantors are currently being held at Kairaba Police Station while the circumstances of Drammeh’s escape are under investigation.

The incident raises serious questions about the safeguards in place for high-profile cases and the accountability of individuals making potentially critical claims. Drammeh’s allegations, coupled with his flight, have left many Gambians awaiting clarity from law enforcement and the government.

As the investigation continues, public interest in the matter remains high, with calls for transparency and justice in addressing the allegations and ensuring accountability.
