Isatou Keita elected president of the Gambia Press Union

Isatou Keita has been elected as the new president of the Gambia Press Union (GPU) following a closely watched election process.

Momodou Jawo, Keita’s sole opponent, graciously accepted the outcome, describing the election as “free, fair, and transparent.” He extended his congratulations to the new president and wished her well in leading the Union.

“I want to sincerely congratulate my sister, Isatou Keita, for being elected as the president of The Gambia Press Union,” Jawo stated. “The GPU members decided to entrust the leadership of the Union to her, and I wish her and her team all the best of luck.”

Jawo reflected on his campaign and acknowledged the nature of elections, saying, “In any election, there must be a winner and a loser. To me, what is most important is that I have shown my interest in serving the members of GPU to the best of my ability.”

Keita’s victory signals a new chapter for the GPU as members look forward to her leadership in addressing key issues facing the press in The Gambia.
