Harmony Beyond Borders: Banjul Mayor Malick-Lowe Applauds Chinese Cultural Showcase as Bridge for Stronger Diplomatic Ties

In a vibrant celebration of culture and diplomacy, the Mayor of Banjul, Rohey Malick-Lowe, attended an extraordinary Chinese cultural performance hosted by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

The event, held at the prestigious Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center, featured the renowned Percussion Harmony group and was hailed by the Mayor as a landmark moment in cultural diplomacy.

“I am honored to be invited by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to witness the Chinese cultural display by the Percussion Harmony group held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center,” Mayor Lowe shared.

“The cultural performance was fantastic and one of a kind. Culture, I believe, is one thing that strengthens diplomatic relations, and I want to thank and commend the Ambassador H.E. Liu Jin and his team for a well-organized event.”

The event underscored the importance of cultural exchange in fostering mutual understanding between nations. Mayor Lowe expressed her appreciation for the rich display of Chinese heritage, noting the surprising similarities between Gambian and Chinese cultural expressions.

“It is interesting to see the parallels in our culture and our music, which is a significant indication that whilst we may be different people, we share many commonalities,” she said.

She further connected the performance to the broader vision of international collaboration, citing the Global Civilisation Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2023.

“I believe this is the start of a collaborative effort since Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Civilisation Initiative in 2023,” she noted. “I am proud to witness a realization of His Excellency’s proposal, and I look forward to continued collaboration and exchange in the future.”

The evening’s performance served not only as a showcase of artistic talent but also as a step forward in strengthening the cultural and diplomatic ties between The Gambia and China.
