The Gambia Police Force has successfully recovered D989,000 from an armed robbery at the El-Hella shop in Banjul, owned by a Mauritanian businessman. The robbery, carried out by suspects Ousainou Jobarteh and Abdoulie Jallow, resulted in the theft of D1,250,000 and 1,650,000 CFA.

During a press conference at the police anti-crime unit headquarters in Banjulinding, authorities revealed that D599,000 was recovered directly from the suspects, while another D390,000 was retrieved from a driver who had been given the getaway vehicle used in the heist. However, the suspects have yet to disclose how the stolen money was divided among them.

Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police at the Crime Investigation Division, Demba Sowe, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to combating crime, noting that law enforcement remains vigilant against criminal activities targeting businesses and investors.

“We are aware of criminals’ ongoing plans to execute their activities. However, the police are fully committed to protecting citizens and residents of The Gambia, especially investors who are often targeted in robbery incidents,” Sowe stated.

He assured the public that the police would continue to pursue justice and ensure that all perpetrators are held accountable. Investigations into the remaining stolen funds and any additional accomplices are ongoing.
