In a significant gesture of support for emergency services in The Gambia, StartUP, a non-governmental organization collaborating with the Canary Island government, handed over critical equipment to the Fire Service and Ministry of Health today.
The presentation took place at the State House in Banjul, where His Excellency President Adama Barrow received the donations aimed at bolstering the country’s emergency response capabilities.
The donation includes two fire trucks — one with a 7,500-litre capacity and another with a 3,000-litre capacity — along with a fully equipped medicalized ambulance. Additionally, three vehicles and a complete radio communication emergency system, including cables, antennas, and radios, were part of the package to strengthen coordination during emergencies.
Essential equipment to aid road traffic accident responses was also provided, alongside supplies to improve living and working conditions for emergency responders.
These include mattresses, sheets, and towels for 12 fire stations, as well as 28 hospital beds and mattresses for 8 fire service clinics, complete with bed sheets and towels for hospitals.
This substantial contribution aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance emergency services.
By reinforcing fire and medical response capabilities, StartUP’s initiative provides a timely boost to The Gambia’s emergency infrastructure, ensuring first responders are better equipped to serve and protect their communities.
