In a bold move to transform the educational landscape for children with learning difficulties, SENDyslexia Trust Gambia has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Refela, The Gambia chapter.
The MoU, which was celebrated as a major stride toward inclusive education, solidifies a partnership committed to improving access to education for all children—regardless of their learning differences.
Announcing the milestone, Mayor of Banjul Rohey Malick-Lowe wrote, “Today, in a significant step towards advancing inclusive education in The Gambia, SENDyslexia Trust Gambia, a charitable trust dedicated to supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and advocating for Inclusive education in The Gambia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Refela the Gambia chapter.”
Refela, known for its powerful advocacy in empowering women and uplifting communities, played a pivotal role in bringing the two institutions together. “Their leadership in uniting organizations with a common vision underscores their dedication to building bridges and fostering togetherness in the pursuit of educational equity,” the mayor noted.
As part of this collaboration, Refela also facilitated a significant introduction—linking SENDyslexia Trust with I Promise Care, a learning centre specializing in support for children with SEN.
This connection is expected to spark future cooperation and strategic planning aimed at fortifying support systems for learners with special needs.
“This introduction has opened the door to future cooperation and strategic planning between the two institutions, with the aim of strengthening support systems and resources for children with learning difficulties,” Mayor Lowe added.
The MoU represents more than a formal agreement; it symbolizes a growing national recognition of the need for inclusive education and the strength found in collaboration. With shared visions and unified efforts, SENDyslexia Trust and Refela are laying the groundwork for a more equitable and supportive educational system in The Gambia.
“Together, they are turning vision into action, taking one step, one partnership, and one child at a time. I thank the CEO of The SENDyslexia Trust and the I Promise Care for the partnership,” the Mayor concluded.
